There is not enough wetland program funding to support Tribes. The role of Tribal governments in protecting wetlands has never been more important after the results of the Sackett decision. For some wetlands, Tribes are the last line of defense against degradation. The federal government can recognize and validate this critical role by providing funding necessary to run a wetlands program for all Tribes, without requiring a process where Tribes must compete for too little funding. We ask that you join us in requesting this funding from Congress. Below are two resources provided by the National Association of Wetland Managers (NAWM): A background on the issue/call to action two-pager and a informational flyer on what to include in a letter to Congress. This information was written with States and Tribes in mind, but we encourage anyone who would like to support Tribes in receiving wetland program funding to write a letter. If you are Tribal staff and need support on writing a letter, please reach out to TWIG or NAWM and we will do our best to provide assistance.
