EPA Region 10 Tribal Clean Water Act Training Workshop

  • Dates: Thursday and Friday, June 29th and 30th, 2023
  • Location: Spokane, WA
  • Venue: The Davenport Grand Hotel
  • The training will be held in conjunction with the SWS Annual Meeting but you may attend this free Tribal Training Workshop without attending the SWS meeting.

We invite tribal water resources staff to join us for a training to enhance your program’s capability to better implement Clean Water Act programs. This training is being organized by U.S. EPA Region 10, the National Association of Wetland Managers (NAWM), and Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota GeoSpatial Services (SMUMN GSS). The first day will include presentations and discussions, while the second day will focus on field visits.

Draft Schedule and Topics:

Thursday, June 29th, 8:00am – 5:00pm:

  • Obtaining Treatment as a State (TAS) for CWA Sections
  • Developing and Implementing Tribal Water Quality Standards including Wetland Water Quality Standards

Friday, June 30th, 8:00am – 1:00pm:

  • Field Trip: Hosted by Coeur d’Alene Tribe (more information forthcoming)

SWS Annual Meeting

This training is being held in conjunction with the Society of Wetland Scientists (SWS) Annual Meeting, which is occurring June 27-30, 2023. However, you may attend this free Tribal Training Workshop without attending the SWS meeting.

NAWM and SMUMN GSS will be hosting a Wednesday symposium at the SWS meeting titled “Engaging Tribal Communities and Youth in Wetland Conversation through Education and Activity.” Meeting registration is required to attend this session; note that one-day registration is available and NAWM scholarships are available to cover the cost for tribes to register for SWS.

Scholarships Available

Financial assistance is available to help cover travel and lodging costs, as well as registration fees if you would like to attend the SWS Annual Meeting.
